About Amanda
Amanda McCarty is a loving wife, homeschool mother of five, and owner of Scratch That Etch. In 2012, Amanda gave up a successful career in sales to pursue a job in teaching. While raising her daughter Maloa, Amanda earned her Master’s Degree in Childhood education. Her education and passion for teaching earned her a job at Saint Croix Catholic, where she taught 2nd grade to 8th grade students.

After having her 4th child, Charlotte Penny, Amanda had to make a tough decision, pay more in child care costs than she earns, or give up her passion for teaching and become a homemaker. The needs of the family prevailed over her passion and she resigned from her position at St. Croix Catholic.

Amanda found herself with time on her hands and a family she needed to help support spiritually, mentally, and financially. Amanda’s first order of business was to establish the school “Fruit of the Spirit Academy”. Amanda no longer is just a teacher, she plays every role it takes to run a school. Amanda soon found out that running a home school was not easy or cheap. The curriculum, supplies, and all the children require funding, so Amanda rolled up her sleeves again.

Inspired by her mother, Deb Kraabel, Amanda dreamed of being an entrepreneur. Her mother played a significant role in her success by planting the seed of entrepreneurship and mentoring her in bringing it to life. Her mother’s first rule was, to do something you love, and that’s just what she did. Amanda started her first business “Scratch That Etch” in 2019. Scratch that Etch serves the Metro Area for Personalization, Gifts, and Promotional Items. Scratch That Etch specializes in gifts, gift boxes, and promotional materials for any person or business that needs to give a gift.
er business “Scratch That Etch” overlap daily. Every morning she uses her home school to feed her children’s thirst for spiritual guidance, wisdom, and knowledge. Then in the afternoon, she moves the classroom to her studio where her children and her husband roll up their sleeves, working for the business she started. Some days are different than others and each of her children plays a different role. Her daughter, Maloa, is her closest partner. She uses past career in sales to empower her oldest daughter, Maloa, to make her own path in entrepreneurship and sales.
